The Story
Santo Mar was The concept, artwork, perfume, and packaging for a product with the same name. This project was a collaboration between Pola von Grut and María Magdalena Cejas, who crafted both the visual and olfactory portraits for Pilar Zarazúa Perfumes' line.
Maria's wanted to pay homage to her forefathers who ventured across the world to a new promised land. Her paternal ancestors arrived 500 years ago when this side of the world didn't even have a name, a place brimming with hope. Her maternal ancestors, Middle Eastern merchants, poets, writers, and people of God, traveled here during an era when few dared to journey the globe.
Pola created the visuals for the project, while Maria developed the perfume. For the visuals, Pola wanted to evoke a historical feeling, utilizing engraving techniques with textures of exotic flowers to represent the lushness of this new land. The spirit of audacity was captured in the perfume formula, using white flowers for a men's composition.
